Times of India Online (hereafter, referred to as TOI), world’s number one english newspaper website (in terms of page views) recently revamped their website completely. The complete revamp brought in a lot of feedback from its users. One of the core strengths of Beevolve is the ability to analyze sentiment around topics, brands, products, markets or even people. We decided to put our sentiment analysis technology to use by analyzing this feedback to see if we could come up with interesting insights.
We gathered unstructured comments from twitter and a forum Times of India set up to gather feedback about the revamped website. Over a course of a few days, the forum got around 5000+ comments. The user comments came from a lot of different countries – even from Iran, Russia and Pakistan. Here is a graph that shows the top countries by user comments.

The system generated tag clouds of the opinion words used to describe the old design and the new design.

The sentiment analysis system parsed the comments to analyse and summarize what the users of TOI preferred. Based on analyzing the user preference expressed in the comments, it seems users prefer the old design over new design by more than a 2:1 margin.

Apart from analyzing for user preference, the system analyzed the general sentiment for the old as well as the new design. The commenters had only positive things to say about the old design.
